You know you may find this hard to believe, if you have read any of my previous scribbling but I truly believe that we are intrinsically good and given the opportunity will help each other. We watch an innocuous TV drama on Netflix called Virgin River. It is about a small town community in rural America where a nurse with a troubled past goes to work. The main characters bicker, argue and gossip is rife, everyone is everyone’s business but when needed they all help and support each other as a community. They may snipe and talk about each other behind their backs but they always step up when help is needed. Now this series has no great point to put across and is a mindless but enjoyable 40 minutes of soap. Why do I mention this simply because I wonder if given the opportunity we would actually all behave in a similar manner? I am sure there are still communities that are tight knit and close but in general most of our country no longer does. I find when needed most people will help others but this no longer translated into a “community” spirit as we understand it. In Kettering where we now live you do get a vague sense of a town that cares about itself and and somewhere in the background there is a sense that a community is still there.

We bitch and moan and blame everyone else (I am no exception) but we are the only ones who can change things and make them better.

Stay well
