Frankly wearing masks in shops and on public transport is so laughable it almost beggars belief. Having said that Wendy and I have been wearing them anyway and have never stopped. Are we going to ban sporting event crowds, stop children going to school and restrict the many thousands of other human activities that happen every day? A mask is a precaution but the virus transmits in other ways. What a crock of shit! They knew about this new strain but let the planes from those countries in anyway and as usual we are reacting after the horse has bolted! I understand the pressures that we are all under to live as normal a life as we can, obviously nobody wants any restriction but it is a virulent pathogen, which will not and cannot be controlled without strict measures. There will be many more strains of the virus mutating for years to come, we need to come to terms with that reality and it seems that no one wants to acknowledge what is an inevitability.

We still have huge daily numbers of infection and far to many deaths, it will continue while we have such a muddled attitude towards the  pandemic, which basically is one of “I won’t catch it so everything is okay”! This government has proved time and time again that it’s management of the pandemic is hopeless  at best and incompetent at worse and no amount of stating how wonderful our vaccine rollout has been will disguise their ineptitude in the first place! It is now about personal responsibility and doing what we each must in order to protect ourselves. If this means sacrifice to remain healthy then so be it, it wont do you any good if your no longer here! These are unpalatable times for many reasons and there is little we can do about many of the issues affecting our lives but we can be sensible and protect ourselves against a known but unseen enemy?

We can’t stop the bad guys at the moment, all over the world they seem to winning and short of war there is no way to stop them! It is to our credit that we do stop short of such action most of the time but still there are to many conflicts going on in the world. Power and money corrupts and there is no doubt that those who want it, want to keep it and want to have more of it. This is no conspiracy, countries support each other in a myriad of ways that we know nothing about and can only look on while they commit crimes against international law. Now days if a dictator wishes to stay in power then they can, there are plenty of others happy to support them and they have no compunction in hurting their own people. If you for one moment think there is fairness, honesty, integrity and the rule of international law working in this world then you are sadly mistaken and lets be brutally honest most of you don’t care, you have enough problems of your own to deal with!

There that’s Monday sorted and I have sent you off into the week with happy thoughts

Stay well and Happy Hanukkah

So we have a new variant! You can’t stop a virus you can only protect against it. The measures just announced are a waste of time, to many inconsistencies! Get vaccinated and take your own precautions, do what you have to to protect you and yours and others. You can have no confidence in anything the government says they have been complicit in the mismanagement of the pandemic from day one.  Trust the scientific and medical advice and research it for yourself. We have a long unending road ahead and many more variants to come!

Wendy has just commented that if we don't provide a safe route for the people trying to get here from France and if we do not, we are complicit in their deaths. I don’t care what the reasons are that they wish come here, you cannot allow desperate people exploited by trafficking to drown in the channel and if you do then shame on all of us! Are they going to prosecute the RNLI for assisting, which according to the latest legislation, is against the law? I don’t care what the figures are, how many people have come to this country or what the current waiting time is to get processed (far too long) these are people who need help it is as simple as that. If we let them in and there happens to be the odd bad one well so be it! Besides what disruptive migrant or potential terrorist would subject themselves to such deprivation simple to commit atrocities in the UK, with little chance of getting here and such danger in doing so? No radical would choose this way of getting here, it is just rhetoric to make us scared!

I went for my first therapy session yesterday with a very nice woman. She gave me a long explanation of how the brain functions which was interesting. Here is the outstanding takeaway, if you lose your temper or are in a fight or flight situation it takes at least twenty minutes for the chemicals your brain shoots into your system for you to calm down. I will report further on my progress.

My darling wife has said that Boris’s apparent inability to deliver his speech and go on about Pepper Pig, is a diversionary tactic to get everyone talking about him and not the policies that are being implemented, like the health bill? I personally can’t credit him with that much subtle intelligence but if it is then I have seriously underestimated him! He has form and has grabbed the headlines with weird behaviour, in the past in order to mask other more devious stuff, he has been involved in and the story has been put on the back burner.  The fact that he is weird seems to have been his unique selling point but I think that is an act you can only sustain for so long, before it just becomes tiresome and ineffective.

This is a government and a PM who have divided the country more than any other in living memory and I include Thatcher! Boris bleats on about how much they have invested in all sorts of areas and yet I think it’s safe to say that none of us have seen any improvement in our lives and we are certainly paying more for everyday items. We are being ripped off over fuel, which has remained overpriced since the “fuel crisis” is another example of profiteering. To a degree the public only has themselves to blame, a stupid reaction to a problem that really did not exist! Prices always rise that is the nature of a capitalist system but since Brexit there is no doubt that ours have been inflated by the stupidity of leaving the biggest trading block in the world! I am not suggesting we should live under a different regime to control the market but radical change is necessary?

On a different subject, 27 migrants did not die, 27 human beings desperate for a better life in a country that used to welcome, people died! We want to bring in the best and the brightest and nobody wants to come here, we are no longer in the EU, why would you come here? We have helped people in the past but now we want to pick and chose and reject those who need help. We used to encourage immigrants ( admittedly for all the wrong reasons and then treated them appallingly) What fools we are to think we can survive without sharing and allowing people to find a better life in our country. And to those who say we have no room or we cant afford it, just put yourself in those refugees place and think how you would feel cut off from a life you once knew and with little hope or prospect? Yes the human smugglers need to be dealt with and eradicated but if we were treating people with basic human kindness there would be no need for the desperate measures they take and the illegal business that fuel their desperation! I will guarantee you that part of our reluctance to accept these “migrants” is as much to do with their racial and ethnic background as the fact that they are homeless!

Wednesday and the week has started well. Yesterday I shot my best golf score of the year and for more importantly my son and daughter in law confirmed we will become grandparents in July, happy days!
I have mentioned before that Wendy and I have only ever been parents, we have no nieces or nephews, we are the only members of our small family to have children. This will be our first and only grandchild and if it is a girl our family name will be gone (though she might keep it regardless) I have no complaint I could care less, once I’m gone, whether my family name continues! People are far to invested in their legacy? As long as I am remembered reasonably fondly I really have no interest, once your gone your gone! Memories are funny things and distance does lend a rosy glow that sometimes obscures reality. I always claim that I did not get on with or love my mother but the truth is I cant actually remember? I don't even remember her being a difficult woman. I think I have used her as a convenient excuse for my own independent rebellion? My father did confirm that we did not have the greatest relationship and certainly she was resistant to my marriage. Memories are strange things. Mine are blurred and intermittent, in fact there are many, many memories that are just a blank to me. Wendy often reminds me about things we did as a family when the boys were young and I nod and say I remember but most of the time it is very vague!
Much cleverer people than me can explain it but I have no idea,  it’s just the way my brain works? I do remember stuff but more of a feeling than necessarily a firm scene of the past. When people say they can remember something like it was yesterday, I wonder if that is really true? I rather like making my past what I would have liked it to be in order to reinforce my present.
Please don’t  misunderstand I do remember a lot very clearly and can recall exactly the part of my past or can I?

Whilst this could have been just a joke, I read a statement that proposes if you have the vaccine it will mess with your spirit and therefore you will not be reincarnated or get into heaven because God will not be able to recognise you! Now while the nonsense of that statement is blindingly obvious, it seems to that if you have a omnipotent being who sees and hears everything, god would have accepted the vaccine and know all about its “changing”properties? Every time anyone uses god as an viewpoint or argument, it is a waste of time, you cant have an all forgiving being who does not forgive? You cant have a omnipresent being whose knows some things but not others, it is a fundamental flaw in any argument that invokes the use of a god!

My views on religion are no secret, a total waste of time and meaningless. If you believe in god, fair enough but you cant have it both ways that a god is all forgiving and knowing but if you displease god or do something not acceptable god will reject you! Naturally I do not think for one moment there is a god, not least because there is no imperial facts that support the existence of such a being but also because simple logic instinctively informs me that it is impossible. It is a wonderful fantasy and perfectly understandable after all who would not wish for some all embracing magical creator, who sees and hears everything and has a place for you after death? It is a natural human reaction to all we have around us, particularly for those in the ancient world who did not yet have all the technology and modern advantages we have. How else would people explain the wonders of nature. Why would you not wish to believe there is a “life” after death? In the 21st century religion no longer has such a strong hold on human existence and yet the belief persists and religions trundle along unable to give up their futile existence and ancient teaching which no longer have any meaning. If you search the logic of your mind you will know there is no god, never has been, never will be, some good tales though!

I often write how our current leadership is about as much use as chocolate teapot. Actually I suspect a chocolate teapot is actually less likely melt than all the promises  they make! If it was not so serious you would have to laugh at the madness of it all. Nobody wants to live in a country that has an embarrassment of riches in politicians who bring our parliament into disrepute. One of the mysteries for me is how these Tory MP’s get educated and grow up with these ideas? Is there some kind of system that turns out representatives who say things that reinforces our perception of the Conservatives or do they truly believe what they say? Do they secretly want to give another point of view but are programmed to spout insensitive nonsense? Surely there must be times when defending their party and PM’s stance becomes a burden almost impossible to justify? It must be why so many of them stumble over answers or just give ones that are are so crass, even they must cringe at what they just said? Boris is Boris he is an exception, a man so uncontrolled and inexcusable that he is beyond the any kind of normal behaviour but surely there must be members of his party who shake their head in disbelief and shuffle out of the chamber wondering what kind of party they now belong too? Do they truly support all the shit they are drowning in? There has been some recent evidence that his support is waiting or at least being questioned. Nobody’s grip on a party lasts forever, look what happened to Maggie Thatcher! It is not surprising that when you have a PM like Boris, the other prominent minsters are bound to be as awful!

Keri Starmer is not the best of replacements, his lack of real attack has proved to be disappointing. At a time when Labour (I am not a Labour supporter) should be shouting how appalling this government is they are almost missing in action, though I suspect the media has so much to say about the corruption and poor governance that they can’t get a look in! It’s difficult to command the news when you have a PM who is reported each day for some further gaff or lie!

Anyway as I said to begin it is all rather funny ha ha ha!

Not a day goes by when our leaders do not perpetrate yet another misguided rule of law or another scandal. What I find difficult to understand is why there is not a majority of us screaming how unfit they all are to be in charge. It mystifies me that we are not all taking to the streets to show our displeasure with the behaviour, corruption, lies, mistakes, abuse of public funds and the many other misguided policies and laws thats are committing everyday? These are very strange times, the strangest I personally have lived through? It is frightening and disturbing how we are complicit in the way our country has been guided and lead. What has happened to us? We have never been as fair minded and tolerant as is often cited but neither have we been so apathetic and seemingly incapable of howling our displeasure against a government whose ineptitude has made us the laughing stock of the world!

There is no doubt that Boris wants to rip up even the appalling agreement he made with EU over Brexit and blame everyone and anyone else for its flaws! The worse of are getting shafted while the rich are fine. It has always been this way but never quite so overtly as it is at present. If you have a Tory government then you should expect them to look after their core voting base, what party wouldn’t if they want to remain in power. If only once they would turn round and say they made a mistake or things changed and their initial assessment had to alter, we might be a little more understanding? Everything is spin or denial and even the fact that there is video evidence of actual statements, makes no difference, denials will be made and even if the video is shown they will either ignore it or blatantly state they never said that! I can’t  speak for you but I am furious and in despair over the state of the United Kingdom, which in itself is a joke, never have we been more disunited! Covid aside, the UK is in parlours state and becoming as close to a dictatorship, as any time in our history, with the possible exception of Cromwell! Yet we put up with this, day after day with no hint of rebellion (peaceful). If we choose to go to the barricades and express our displeasure than I am with you.

Word of the day: CIRCUMBENDIBUS (17th century) an answer or explanation so convoluted and evasive it isn’t really an answer at all!

Could you write a political drama or comedy as real as the one we have been witnessing since Johnson took power? Could you invent comedy characters as good as the ones in the Tory party? You would be told you were exaggerating if you invented some of these minsters or MP’s and yet the reality is so much worse than any imagined series! On his own Boris is a comedy figure like no other politician we have ever seen but the cast of characters in his cabinet and the wider Conservative party are an incredible mix of rampant privilege and elitism so bent, you almost cant believe it is happening for real!

For those who want to understand the next phase of Boris’s derailed rail scheme hers is a picture of the new high speed train:

When I was young in the fifties and sixties men where never to open about their feelings, it just wasn’t done. You kept your thoughts to yourself and just got on with stuff. Now we are encouraged to open up and discuss our inner most thoughts, which I welcome. I have always tried to be an open person but I am heartened to find that many men that I know are open to therapy and understand the value of mindfulness. A friend told me yesterday that for years he thought the Americans pathetic for their obsession with therapy but now he sees the value in it.
I am going to explore the possibility of getting therapy myself. I have an inner rage against the events of the world and particularly our government, that disturbs me in a way that I cant quite explain. Of course the pandemic has not helped and I am sure I am not alone in the anxiety that has been engendered by it!
The human condition is a complex one which I have often tried to see in simple terms. Often I brushed aside those who have experienced all sorts of emotions as trivial even though I was well aware that such mental strain was far from that.
I will report on my progress.

I am sure I am not alone in feeling a permanent sense of anger, that bubbles under the surface. Over the last few years with Brexit, the pandemic, Trump, Johnson and the general state of our world! It engenders a underlying mood of melancholy, which as more than once manifested itself as rage. The world has always been a difficult place and if one cares anything about it, these last years have proved once and for all how mismanagement and deception only makes things ten times worse! I have always had a temper but as I have got older it has become very rare that I let it get the better of me, maturity and just the mere fact of getting older has mellowed me. However recently I have started to notice that my tolerance has become far less contained and my fuse shorter. I suspect I am not alone?

The voice of the “liberal” minded who seek fairness and truth has all but been silenced and no longer have any real representation. We are seen as weak and pathetic and those at either side of the spectrum shout louder and command more attention! We have no chance of getting our views across and even when we vote, in areas like ours the political map is firmly in the hands of the Conservatives and it is almost impossible to shift that dynamic? It is an ironic , especially as our MP seems to be universally disliked but then I presume the majority who support him have no need to say a word!

Trying to disengage or no longer take an interest is a little like trying to kick any addiction! Perhaps I need a “world events anonymous” meeting! “My name is Guestling and I’m an addict!” Yes I am being flippant and it is not my intention to denigrate those with serious addictions.

The pandemic is not something that can be controlled and we must learn to live with it, if it curtails some of our freedom then that is the price we have to pay. As for the rest, much if not all of it is self-inflicted, avoidable and largely about power and money. Brexit as many of us shouted loudly from well before the referendum, is a shambles, I need not reiterate all of the reasons, they are self-evident.

I dont have the answers and it is easy to moan and criticise, without necessarily understanding the complexities of the issues. We blame everybody else and feel what little we do, has no impact. There is no them and us, we are all people, whether your in the government or retired like myself we are all people and in the end, as history has proved, it is the people who always bring about the changes that are needed. So however angry you might be, keep trying!

So COP26 has finished with the inevitable disappointment, that I suspect we all knew it would. Getting the world to agree on anything is difficult, self- interest will always trump collective progress. Fossil fuels just need to stop now. Stop burning them right away and that part of the problem ceases. If you keep giving nations time to phase fossil fuel out by this year or that year is a waste of time, they will always find a way of reneging on any agreement, safe in the knowledge that they cannot be forced or made to stop! None of us know whether climate change is a long term problem or a temporary blip in the Earths history. We do know that we have created in a very short time span an enormous problem, which if we do not change our ways will damage our home beyond its ability to recover.

I drove my petrol car to Stratford, yesterday, about 60 miles there and 60 back, naturally thousands of vehicles were on the roads and Stratford itself was heaving. It would be interesting to know how much C02 emissions were being pumped out in the midlands area?

Wendy and I often look at the alternate train fares, especially as Kettering Station is at the bottom of our road (our road is Station rd). The calculation is between the cost of the train ticket and how much fuel you would use to travel to the same destination. For instance to travel to London by train can cost up to £40 each return. My car would use less fuel than that I can park for free and use the underground. The train would save me driving and take us into central London, so it has its advantages but if it were just a little less expensive there would be no debate!

We know that we have let the car become all embracing when it comes to travel, even short distances. Our public transport has become woefully underinvested and the service is poor and does not offer a positive alternative. Car ownership is not just about getting form a to b, I would be the first to admit that I just like cars, always have since I was a small boy. I like them for many reasons and not just speed or convenance. So disabusing people from using their cars so much, is not just about driving them, it is so much more than that!

There has been a lot of use of the word Integrity. Indeed I frequently use it myself usually in relation to our lack of it in government and particularly BoJo! So I decided to look up the definition of the word in the dictionary

1 Steadfast adherence to  a strict moral or ethical code

2 The state of unimpaired soundness

3 The quality or condition of being whole; completeness

I do not feel the need to point out the obvious. If that is the definition then it is clear that there are so many in Parliament who fall short of that it is shameful! I am sure that most MP’s have genuine integrity or at the very least want to do the best for their constituents. Recently and for far to long we have witnessed to many examples of members who have little or no integrity and only have a passing understanding of it’s actually meaning!

Is there anything left to say about Boris Johnson? Can he damage our politics and country any further? Sadly the answer is yes he will continue to make us an embarrassment for as long as he remains PM. How he is still supported by any voters is beyond understanding. Times have been hard, things are not easy out in the big wide world. What have inflicted on ourselves is bad enough, compounded by the pandemic, we are in a perilous position. So at a time when we need strong leadership we have a PM who has no moral compass or integrity and what is worse never acknowledges or even realises, that he has lied, falsified, corrupted, ignored or just plain does not care! Unfortunately his entire government is tainted with his personality and way of governing. I wonder if they are tired of defending him and backing up his deception? Surely there must be one or two of them who know how appalling it is to have him as their leader and are just not in a position to do anything? I watch the odd clip of various spokespeople defending him or the general Troy position and they just don’t seem very convincing or convinced. their body language is that of people who know they are defending the indefensible but have no choice but gamely carry on, compounding the lies. We have a government which has no credibility simply because we are constantly hearing about all awful things they do and all the things they are not doing. the list of relations, “friends” and donors who they have given contracts to or tried to place in positions of influence is endless. For instance did you know that the PM’s brother Jo Johnston was made a director of Dyson (a Brexiters who moved his headquarters abroad!) a month after the pandemic “started” in the U.K. and then Dyson were awarded a contract for extractors worth millions without any need for a competitive tender!

This man has to go, I would make a better PM and I know absolutely nothing about anything which seems to me to be a positive advantage!

Mask no mask, vaccine no vaccine? I support freedom of choice, how could you not but NHS workers see the horrors of the virus before their eyes everyday! Why would you not be vaccinated. They have seen death on an unprecedented scale since the start of this pandemic, how can you refuse to be jabbed? What is worse is we cannot afford to lose them, there aren’t enough of them to begin with. I wonder if any patients have had the presence of mind to ask staff if they have been? My daughter in law, as I have written before is a Matron who runs a care unit for discharged patients and therefore she and her staff visit homes all over the area, she and they did not hesitate to get vaccinated. They had a couple of positive tests along they way and in the early days a couple of cases but as she says, the protection is not just for her but for her patients.

Now I suspect if you have not been vaccinated by now you are not ever going to be and I also suspect that most unvaccinated will probably not catch the virus? That however is no excuse as far as I am concerned. We all have our opinion and much has been said and written about the merits of being vaccinated, a lot of it nonsense and some of of it scientifically accurate. Sure there is always some risk to any vaccine, human physiology is complicated and unpredictable but the vast majority of us will be unaffected. Let me ask you this, if you were admitted to hospital with an ailment and the medical advise was to be injected with a medicine that could protect you from further illness, you probably would not hesitate to have it? You might ask if there were an side effects but you certainly would not spend time on the internet researching every conceivable theory on its efficacy?

There have been two sides to this debate, from the beginning, neither is completely right and neither is completely wrong. Each side is entrenched in there belief, each side claims to be right? I am firm in my belief, which side I am on. I have always believed in medicine, it has saved my life and will not abandoned my belief in it now simply because there is a cacophony of noise that shouts it is bad for me!

A good friend of mine who works for Jaguar in sales, tells me the predicted fall off of car purchases has happened, as he put it “off a cliff edge”. There are mitigating factors, such as the chip shortage and a much reduced used car pool but it has all the indicators of a recession being on it’s way. I worked in the car trade for several years and a big drop off in sales always seemed to proceed a downturn in the economy. People are experiencing “buyers remorse” having spent to much during the pandemic (a pandemic which is continuing) and with the cost of living rising dramatically, budgets are being tightened. Can you tell me that you have not noticed a rise in prices? The pandemic has caused disruption, normal market forces continue but the biggest cause is Brexit!

I dont feel the need to write about the current political row, it is self explanatory and a more obvious corruption and immoral behaviour, will not be seen. You make up your own mind but if you do not see the sleaze in this PM and most of his party then you are blind!

We are hoping to make a big announcement very soon, a happy one and one we had all but given up on. Further news will be forthcoming!

Food banks? I have a question, why do we have them? I know the answer but this is 2021 and it seems poverty has got worse? What has happened to our society? Yes we have always had people in need, we have always had homelessness, many have had to struggle. Have we just accepted that food banks are here to stay? We are not a third world country struggling to feed our population? I ask all of this, simply because I no longer understand the cause. I am completely insulated from such issues, Ive never had a hungry day in my life, except because I may have chosen too. I will always help if I can and often contribute. I not telling you this to make myself look good, indeed I wish nobody had to but what kind of country have we become, when so many people rely on the generosity of others? There are many hundreds of problems that need attention in the UK but surely a fundamental one is that the vast majority of people can afford and have enough to eat? Ir is completely unacceptable!

Saturday, November 6, 2021

Well what a week! As usual the government showed itself to be full of integrity and honesty! While world leaders discussed the fate of our planet, the Tories once again showed the rest of the world that they have no monopoly on corruption and sleaze! We have become rather good at it and unfortunately it is nothing new, it has been going on for decades. You have to give this government credit fro being blatant about it, there is no disguise, no attempt to hide their complicity with corruption. It’s quite refreshing really because unlike the past, we, the public now know exactly where they stand! No more deception or back room deals, no, we will exercise our bending of the rules on the floor of the house for all to see. In the past you have never been quite sure what the real stance of a government is but there is no doubt with this lot they simply revel in their lies and manipulation of the truth for all to hear! If they win the next election then we will know what a majority of those who vote, really want our country to be?

I might be wrong but I am coming to the conclusion that for much of the public, what they do is okay or they just don't care as long as it suits them? If you were an open minded person arriving in our country, completely unaware of the political make-up or what each party represented, surely you would quickly conclude that Britain is a weird place to have voted in a Conservative government? Any fair minded individual would look at this country and conclude that the people care little for who makes their laws and policies, so much so that they voted for a man who looks like an unmade bed and behaves like his own worse version of his spitting image puppet! You have to laugh, if it was not so serious, you sit on the side lines and watch unfold like some twisted sitcom. Let face it, to use a cliched phrase, you could not make it up. Now where on the web can I find well paid lobbyist jobs, nothing under a £100k per annum!

Word of the day is MALVERSATION (16th century) The corrupt administration of power!

I have felt much better since refraining from commenting too much on our political shenanigans. Yesterday’s behaviour would be a perfect platform for a rant but “word of the day” will suffice and says it all anyway!

It’s is a strange juxtaposition, when one gets to a certain age that you care about the world and yet at the same time I don’t! I have less time in front of me and therefore I just want to get on with my life. Everyday is precious (they always have been) and as there are fewer of them I am not inclined to waste energy on the woes of the UK and the world. I have written many times that individuals can effect change and we have seen many examples. It is easier if you have a platform or are well known but this should not prevent action from anyone. Having said that the effort involved is difficult and 99% of the time will yield no result. My personnel mental health is far mor important than a rant against the sleaze and corruption, hypocritical nonsense and lies.

So I am taking little interest in the events of the world (sort of) and I am passing the baton to those who are younger and more passionate, over to you!

A good friend of mine, who is 82, pointed out yesterday that he will never see many of the targets set by countries to affect climate change! Which brought into stark relief, why are so many targets so many years down the line, when all the experts agree that we have do what is needed now! If it is as urgent as we are told (which I believe) then we have make tough choices and we all have to buy into them. We fundamentally need to change our behaviour and attitude in order to save our planet then why are we not implementing these targets immediately. I understand many things have to wind down and that change takes time but targets of 5, 10, 20 years or longer are surely too late? The world has to come together and the rich have to support those countries whose economic situation makes it more difficult.
There is the theory that our time as a species is finite and like the dinosaurs we decline and die out. Whether we leave Earth in a habitable condition for whatever comes next is debatable. We are the biggest pest on our planet and there are millions who know little about how we are destroying it or could care less they are just trying exist and stay alive.
There are many who live a simple life and in harmony with nature, it is natural. We look in awe at the beauty of our planet, I can’t think of a single person I know who does not care about nature.
We are all aware that the will is there, we all know there is more than enough money, we all hear the fine words and impassioned sentiment and yet we keep asking when will real action be implemented, when will these leaders actually carry out all their promises and why aren’t we all doing it now?

What has happened to the British sitcom? We used to produce fantastic 30 minute sitcoms, funny, poignant, witty and a reflection of our lives (naturally exaggerated) Now I would be the first to admit that we have not watched a lot of them and perhaps we are missing out but when we do we are always disappointed! Humour like anything moves on but it seems we still have the same cliched old humour recycled in a more contemporary way, we still have seaside innuendo. We tried the new Outlaws series on the BBC. It just was not funny or even that much humour. We gave it a chance but unimpressed!

US comedies are not any better at present we have watched a few and the standard is not great. Perhaps there are to many channels with to much time to fill and the standard has universally dropped.

Ther are some honourable mentions. Never Have I Ever, The Good Place on Netflix, Hitmen on Sky.

We have been watching The West Wing which is on 4 iPlayer, the production, script and acting are superbly done. Clever writing which still bears a relevance 20 years on! I am happy to hear any recommendations of comedies or programmes. We all have different tastes, which is a good thing with all the diverse programmes that are currently produced.

Stay well
