I am sure I am not alone in feeling a permanent sense of anger, that bubbles under the surface. Over the last few years with Brexit, the pandemic, Trump, Johnson and the general state of our world! It engenders a underlying mood of melancholy, which as more than once manifested itself as rage. The world has always been a difficult place and if one cares anything about it, these last years have proved once and for all how mismanagement and deception only makes things ten times worse! I have always had a temper but as I have got older it has become very rare that I let it get the better of me, maturity and just the mere fact of getting older has mellowed me. However recently I have started to notice that my tolerance has become far less contained and my fuse shorter. I suspect I am not alone?

The voice of the “liberal” minded who seek fairness and truth has all but been silenced and no longer have any real representation. We are seen as weak and pathetic and those at either side of the spectrum shout louder and command more attention! We have no chance of getting our views across and even when we vote, in areas like ours the political map is firmly in the hands of the Conservatives and it is almost impossible to shift that dynamic? It is an ironic , especially as our MP seems to be universally disliked but then I presume the majority who support him have no need to say a word!

Trying to disengage or no longer take an interest is a little like trying to kick any addiction! Perhaps I need a “world events anonymous” meeting! “My name is Guestling and I’m an addict!” Yes I am being flippant and it is not my intention to denigrate those with serious addictions.

The pandemic is not something that can be controlled and we must learn to live with it, if it curtails some of our freedom then that is the price we have to pay. As for the rest, much if not all of it is self-inflicted, avoidable and largely about power and money. Brexit as many of us shouted loudly from well before the referendum, is a shambles, I need not reiterate all of the reasons, they are self-evident.

I dont have the answers and it is easy to moan and criticise, without necessarily understanding the complexities of the issues. We blame everybody else and feel what little we do, has no impact. There is no them and us, we are all people, whether your in the government or retired like myself we are all people and in the end, as history has proved, it is the people who always bring about the changes that are needed. So however angry you might be, keep trying!

Stay well
