I have every sympathy for the people of Gaza and frankly I have no time for the Israel response to being attacked. The Palestinians are not Hamas and Hamas does not give a fuck about them, they are fanatics who want Israel destroyed and if their own people get caught in the crossfire so be it! All Hamas care about is going to what they believe is heaven and damn the consequences for anyone else!
There have been big marches showing support for the Palestinians and there is nothing wrong with that but if only the British people could show the same passion about their own politics! In the middle is reading Rory Stewarts book Politics on the Edge one can understand why! Whilst his view is a personnel one, it makes you wonder why anyone would want to be an MP in the first place. Our conception of being represented and therefore “listened to” is a fantasy, they do what the whips tell them and woe betide you if you do not support the government. It seems most new MP’s are desperate for promotion and that it hangs solely on your ability to support the govt. no matter what your own view might be and even if you vehemently opposed to their legislation! So much for independent democracy! One would be naive to believe otherwise but it reveals the deep uncaring nature of those at the top as they pursue their never ending quest for power and to implement an agenda that almost always has nothing to do with the facts or the issues involved.
It is easy to condemn our people for showing little interest in our own political establishment and there are many who are very engaged . I sincerely hope that younger people are more aware of their country. You can understand why we are sick and tired of our political system, apathy towards our politicians is understandable, particularly with the lot we have now, with not a single statesman like figure among them. Our choice is between the bland and the blander!
Stay well
