Day 223
As I bask in the glow of the defeat of Trump, I am wondering what damage he will do in the remainder of his tenure? Some may wonder why I have ranted about this man for four years? After all I’ve never been to the US am not likely to. What Trump or any American President does has little effect on my life and I suspect yours. He is a despicable man, no doubt but so what? Well if you care in any way about our world the President of America becomes a important part of it. America may not be the world leading nation it once was but it’s influence, wealth and resources still make it a powerful force. If you have a nutter running that country we are all in trouble! Trump is not the only dangerous leader in the world at present but at least he is one less to worry about. I do not profess to understand the geo political influences and how those, many find abhorrent, rise to power with right wing views and dictatorial leanings that many thought we had seen the last of with the demise of Hitler, Mussolini, Stalin and many others. I don’t profess to understand how the those values still persist in our more enlightened times. I can’t fathom how so many can be fooled by men (and it exclusively men) who promise much and once they have power give nothing and suppress peoples hard won rights? It is happening here in the UK and if you don’t think so you are naive. The Tory government cares little for our rights and it is only the pandemic ironically that has kept them in check. Fortunately I don’t think Boris and his ministers will last because his parliamentary party does not and has never really wanted him! They are certainly not happy with him?
Let us hope that Biden and Harris are the start of trend towards a more conciliatory and kinder leadership and starts a trend. Let’s hope all Biden words of reconciliation are not just hot air. I have the impression that Kamela Harris will have a lot influence during this Presidency?
