Day 101

Music. I don’t know about you but without it life would be mulch much worse! I like all types (tried to like rap but with no success so far) Rock, Pop, Soul, R & B, Disco, Heavy Metal, Blues, Jazz, Classical, Opera, African, South American, Indian, Folk, Brass, Musicals, and so on and so on. There are some variations on one or two categories that I struggle with but in the main I love it all.
I have recently been going through my vinyl collection my original vinyl collection started way back in the sixties. I have dragged out my my larger CD collection. I listen to many radio programmes and have had a subscription to Spotify for some years.
Spotify has a weekly Discovery and Latest Releases soundtrack and I listen each week find new artists and ones I have not heard for a long time or had forgotten. The music available is mind boggling enormous and you can only catch a small fraction of it.
I am a little lost once the 90’s started (not completely) and todays artists, with a few exceptions, are a mystery to me. I am an old boy and frankly most of todays music seems bland and miserable as though it has run out of ideas. I am sure those who are younger could point out lots of stuff that is progressive and exciting but form the precious little I’ve heard it does not impress me!
I want to know when vocalists and particularly female vocalists started to elongate and strangle every note in an attempt to warble the larynx into paroxysms of vocal gymnastics that are a pain to the ear?. Though no doubt the youth love it or don’t know any different?
Well I make no apology for my inability to understand the older generation have always been critical of the younger generation’s taste in music, it was ever thus.

Stay well
