Day 112

All things considered this decade has not got off to a good start! (I nicked that sentence)
Whilst we have been consumed by the COVID-19 pandemic, I worry about all the things that have slipped through or not had the prominence they deserve? All the issues that were besetting the world before the viral outbreak have not gone. Who really knows what governments have pushed through while the headlines have  filled with Covid? As I have continually written Brexit has not been negotiated and time is now shorter.
I read today that there have been double the number of children in the UK suffering from malnutrition than at the same time last year. The fact that there are any children facing malnutrition is disgusting. I was born in the 50’s and as a baby we were still under rationing from the Second World War. I’m sure there was poverty and kids who did not have sufficient to eat but even then it was not  as bad. Malnutrition is not necessarily not having enough to eat, it is not having the right foods to eat, getting the right nutrients and vitamins. It is not even necessarily about poverty, although that is much more likely.  In a country as rich and supposedly civilised as the UK the amount of deprivation and poverty is unacceptable and with all the money being thrown about surely it can be helped.
Easy for me to say as I sit in my comfortable home typing on one of my devices. I’ve never experienced poverty or lack of food. I’ve been poor once or twice but always had help.
It is not a simple one size fits all solution and there are many reasons why people struggle. Our social system needs serious restructuring and major investment. Education must play it’s part. Looking at the state of things at present (and for a long long time) I have to say I am not hopeful.

Well that’s cheered you up? Always pleased to make your Monday morning one of sparkling pleasure!

I’ve made up my own word SPELLWANK  when spellcheck has changed a word without you noticing and you’ve sent the message already!

Stay well
