Day 38
May Day celebrations everywhere!!!!
Last evening I was flicking through TV channels, as you do, when I came across Boris’s daily briefing. Most of you know I am no fan of Mr Johnson. When he speaks he cannot string more than a few words together without harrumphing and aahing. It’s like listening to a mild version of the character who used be on the Fast Show (for those who remember) who could not say an understandable word without slurring and spitting. He is slightly more coherent than his buddy from across the pond but he even when he says positive things he does not fill you with confidence or make you glad he is in charge (Is he?) I am sure you have not forgotten but this is the man we overwhelmingly trusted to see us through the mistake that is Brexit. Be careful what you vote for!
I yet to read or understand a coherent and well thought out explanation why this man is so popular?I am not talking about the superficial bluster and jingoism we see from his public persona, which so many have been fooled by but the real man underneath.
This morning I though about painting the downstairs loo, for all of about 30 seconds and then thought no, I only go in there for one reason, so who cares!
We have a milkman, yes a good old fashioned milkman who delivers glass bottles of proper milk. Not done by written notes anymore, oh no we are tech savvy and internet ready. He delivers other stuff as well which has been handy during this lockdown. Compost, yogurt, cereal and bread to mention a few. We have ordered a loaf to arrive on a Friday. We have cancelled that delivery a couple of times and having checked the loaf was definitely not on our order but it seems he thinks we need it because he has left it on the step every week. We are not sure if we have paid for it, it could be free bread!
So now we speculate on when restrictions will be lifted. It will be a very different world we go back into. There are those I’ve read who are afraid of entering society for fear of still contracting the virus and I can understand that but you can’t put your life on hold for ever and I for one will not live like that. There are always risks you just have to get on with it.
I’m delighted to read that Dolphins have been seen around Malta and in Venice. The complete halt of freight and pleasure boat traffic as meant the sea has already started to recover from the normal pollution. I am sure most of you have noticed the cleaner air, having less traffic (which is increasing once more) It shows how quickly nature adjusts to the changes wrought by mankind and that we can get these things under control relatively quickly. Let’s hope the lesson is learnt, I suspect the chase after lost profit will defeat that quite quickly but I live in hope!
Stay well
